How green are the clothes on your back?


The Sustainable Apparel Coalition plans to catalog the environmental impact of apparel making and assign sustainability scores to garments based on its findings, The New York Times reported Tuesday. The effort is designed to encourage apparel makers to be more environmentally conscious, while also making consumers aware of the chemicals and processes that manufacturers use to make clothing.   “This will ultimately put the power in the hands of the consumers, because the apparel industry is saying out loud, ˜We re going to find a way to disclose to you what behind this purchase decision ” beyond color, size and fit.   Jeffrey Swartz, the chief executive of Timberland, told The New York Times.
