Great Lake states selected for $4.5 million manufacturing program


A $4.5 million pilot program designed to shorten the new product development cycle for manufacturers is coming to Illinois and three other Great Lake states, the Chicago Tribune reported today. U.S. Commerce Secrectary Gary Locke said new supercomputing technology could cut six months from the typical product development cycle, the story said. The funding went to the Washington, D.C.-based Council on Competitiveness, which will create the National Digital Engineering and Manufacturing Consortium to develop software and train manufacturers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and  Ohio, the article said.
